Grove investigates humankind’s misguided sense of supremacy over the natural world. This elegantly powerful and quietly devastating work illuminates how our refusal to recognize our own impermanence holds enduring consequences while underscoring the importance of communion and embracing the beauty in our brevity. 

Grove featured professional company dancers/collaborators Katie Dean, Kelsey Kramer, Junie Marsh, and Ammara Shafqat; Youth Apprentices Anaïs Dallett and Z’Yanah Gonzalez; lighting design by Severn Clay-Youman; and original live music by Hans Bilger.

Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance premiered Grove in The Underground of the Historic Masonic Theatre and Amphitheatre in Clifton Forge, VA in April 2024.
