Monday, August 24 - Tuesday, September 1: Crossroads Project: Alleghany Highlands, VA
Working with student dancers from Cora Dance Alleghany’s Cora Youth Company in the Alleghany Highlands of VA, Shannon Hummel will facilitate Cora’s Fellowship Initiative: The Crossroads Project, an intensive, multi-site project exploring the idea of “home” through movement, writing, performance, and community dialogue. Led by Crossroads founder Shannon Hummel in collaboration with artists at each site, weeklong intensives will take place in Alleghany County, Petersburg, and Richmond, VA, and Brooklyn, NYC, engaging four cohorts of teen artists in the creation of original interdisciplinary work reflecting their personal and collective experiences of home, identity, and belonging.
More than 50 youth participants from across all four communities will perform multiple times throughout the season and come together September 24–25 at Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology in Petersburg, VA for a collaborative residency and shared performance, weaving together the voices, choreography, and stories developed throughout Crossroads into powerful community-centred events.
