Chosen by open audition, Cora’s 3-tiered YCP/Youth Company Programs include the performing ensembles JCYC/Junior Cora Youth Company (grades 4-8), CYC/Cora Youth Company (age 6-12); and Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance Apprentice Company, a select group working directly with the professional company Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance. YCPs provide intensive company experience to serious young dancers who perform each spring at local festivals, community events, and formal concerts and tour out of state! Sunday, March 10, 11am-1pm: CORA DANCE’S CULTIVATION BRUNCH @ Cora Dance, 358 Van Brunt Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn. Join Cora Dance for live performances by all three YCP companies as well as the professional company while enjoying a light brunch and learning more about the organization and how to get involved! Tuesday, March 12, 6:30pm: YCP’S AT THE RED HOOK PUBLIC LIBRARY @ Red Hook Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, 7 Wolcott Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn. Cora’s Tier 1 & 2 Youth Companies - JCYC/Junior Cora Youth Company and CYC/Cora Youth Company - will perform works from their repertoire - including dances by Katie Dean, Shannon Hummel and Urban Step icon Maxine Lyle - for audiences of all ages. Saturday, March 16, 7:30pm: BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange’s Teen Arts Conference Performance Gala @ BAX, 421 5th Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn. Cora’s Tier 2 Youth Company, CYC/Cora Youth Company, will perform “In Waves” by guest artist Katie Dean as part of a showcase of works in this eclectic festival of performing arts groups from across NYC. Friday, March 29-Sunday, March 31: The Trillium Performing Arts Concert @ The Lewis Theater, 865 South Court Street, Lewisburg, WV. Trillium Performing Arts presents its annual dance and movement theatre concert featuring the work of CORE artists from Trillium as well as the work of Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance’s Apprentice Company. Apprentice Dancers will present Hummel’s 1998 duet “Had You Been Here” and excerpts of the 2006 evening-length work “Elsewhere”. Saturday, June 1, 7pm-MIDNIGHT! The 7th Annual RED HOOK COMMUNITY PROM @ South Brooklyn Community High School, 173 Conover Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn. Cora presents its beloved, RETRO high-school-prom-themed, kick-ass dance party: THE RED HOOK COMMUNITY PROM. Whether you want to relive it all or need a total re-do PROM is the place to make it happen! With photo booth by MVS Studios; an incredible silent auction; live performances by Cora’s professional and YCP companies; and throwback 70s, 80s, and 90s hits spun by DJ Robert Lux, this event will rock you like it’s 1999!  Proceeds support the scholarship fund and YCP/Youth Company Programs of Cora Dance. Sunday, June 9, 2pm and 7pm: CORA YOUTH COMPANY AND JR. YOUTH COMPANY PROGRAMS IN CONCERT @ Cora Dance, 358 Van Brunt Street, Red Hook Brooklyn. This culminating year-end concert features JCYC/Junior Cora Youth Company and CYC/Cora Youth Company performing their entire repertoire of work in this 2018-2019 season. Works include choreography by Artistic Director Shannon Hummel as well artists Jess Burgess, Rebekah Bono, Katie Dean, Maxine Lyle, Juliana Marsh and Keon Washington.
