A Note from Shannon-

January 3, 2012- I had the immense pleasure of spending an entire week last week creating work on 12 young dancers, many of whom are part of The Shenandoah Contemporary Dance Theatre in Harrisonburg VA. The 6 members of SCDT, 6 additional dancers from Dance & Company (a wonderful, warm arts center where the SCDT also resides) and myself worked for 6 hours a day creating a really physically intense work that required a substantial level of maturity from the cast. And they did not disappoint! These young dancers were movingly committed, focused, genuine and open. I so appreciate every moment I shared with them. The week culminated with two back to back performances on New Year’s Eve night for the entire community, which were PACKED! The entire week was tremendously inspiring to me. Such committed and talented young dancers opening themselves to the process, immediately stepping onstage literally hours after completing the work and performing
before a diverse audience of community members who CHOSE to spend their
New Year’s Eve watching dance. What a pleasure! Thank you Drew Jones,
Dance & Company/SCDT Director for inviting me to take part in this
residency and to the young dancers who gave me so much while I was there.
